An offspring calculator for morphs and mutations, including Z-linked.
Record what each animal carries, pick a sire and dam, and Broodstock shows the odds of every outcome, plus the inbreeding estimate for the offspring. It is included on every plan, Free included.
What it handles
- Recessive and dominant traits.
- Incomplete dominant traits and their homozygous "super" forms.
- Possible hets, entered with a percentage, alongside proven hets.
- Z-linked (sex-linked) traits in birds, with separate son and daughter tables.
- Line-bred colours, which give a colour trend rather than a percentage.
- A warning when two traits are alleles of the same gene, so you treat those numbers as approximate.
Species with reference traits
Reptiles: ball pythons, corn snakes, western hognose, leopard geckos, crested geckos and bearded dragons.
Birds: budgies, cockatiels, peach-faced lovebirds, Indian ringnecks, zebra finches and diamond doves.
Other species can still be recorded in Broodstock. They show no reference traits yet.
How it works
- Set each animal's type and species.
- Add its traits: visual, het (proven), possible het with a percentage, or homozygous (super).
- Open Genetics, choose a sire and a dam, and calculate the odds.
- Read the outcome list and the offspring COI line.
Going further
- Pairing Planner (Keeper and up): name the trait you want and Broodstock ranks every male and female pairing in your stock by the odds.
- Photo morph ID (Business): upload a photo and Ranger suggests the visible traits, which you confirm before anything is saved.
Good to know
Genotypes are entered by you; Broodstock does not test DNA, and the calculator is only as good as your records. Mark a het as proven only when you have proof, such as a test breeding.

Is the genetics calculator free?
Yes. The genetics calculator is included on every plan, including Free.
Does it work for birds with sex-linked mutations?
Yes. Z-linked traits show separate odds for sons and daughters, and females have no hidden carrier state, following the ZW model.
Can I enter a possible het?
Yes. Enter a possible het with a percentage, or mark it as proven when you have proof such as a test breeding.
Which species have reference traits?
