We built Broodstock for the animals.
We’re David and Keaton, two breeders with a small bird and reptile room in Kuna, Idaho. We built the software we wished every breeder had, because better records make healthier animals.
Our mission
Give every breeder, from one shelf to a full rack room, the records, genetics and care tools to raise healthy animals and pair them responsibly, so the whole community ends up with better animals.
Why we started
We kept meeting animals that were sick, or more closely related than anyone realized, and we wanted to help change that. Too often a pairing gets made without anyone knowing the two animals share a grandparent, or a health problem goes unnoticed because the notes lived in a group chat and a notebook. Most of the time that isn’t bad intent. It’s missing information.
So we started tracking our own animals properly: every animal’s parents, its care, its weights and its health notes, all in one book. That book became Broodstock. We use it in our own room every day, and we opened it up so other breeders could have the same thing.
What that looks like in the app
- Relatedness before you pair. Every animal carries its pedigree and an inbreeding (COI) estimate, so you can see how closely two animals are related before you put them together.
- Genetics with welfare warnings. The offspring calculator flags lethal and health-risk genes. When a trait is reported as harmful but the evidence isn’t settled yet, we flag it anyway and let you decide.
- Animal care is never behind a paywall. Everything you need to keep an animal healthy is on every plan, including the free one: care logs, weights, health notes, medications, bulbs and equipment. Paid plans add convenience and business tools, not basic care.
- An honest AI manager. Ranger checks trusted husbandry sources, links where his information came from, and says when he isn’t sure instead of guessing.
- Your records are yours. Your data is never used to train AI, and you can download every record any time.
Real people, real animals
Broodstock Technologies, LLC is a veteran-owned, husband-and-husband company. There’s no call center: when you email support@broodstock.app, one of us reads it. If something in Broodstock doesn’t work for your animals, tell us. Medication and bulb tracking came straight from breeders we talked to at the Boise reptile show, and we want to keep building that way.
